Relegation will end the era of Sullivan, Gold & Brady

The stadium is not the problem.
Many major clubs in Europe play in similar stadiums with running tracks, Napoli who are unbeaten in Serie A and playing great football. Monaco - last season's French champions. The two Italian giants Roma & Lazio share a similar stadium. Successful football can still be achieved at the OS with a cohesive Board, Team, Fan-base..

The Owners/Board are the problem.
Relegation will force them to sell as running the club will get very ugly for them. They have put the club in this position with their manipulations and schemes. They were EXACTLY the same at Birmingham FC. They have saved the club, had 5 managers but have reached their limit. Fundamental errors, like poor separation of away fans, have revealed their lack of suitability, aside from the broken promises to all. If Payet had signed for Arsenal he'd still be there now.

New owners with real ambitions in the most financially rewarding football league in the world, with the TV rights etc, will buy the club and there will be no shortage of potential buyers. American, Middle East, Russia, China etc

It will get better. The basic foundations of WHUFC are still very strong. The fans and the history will not be eradicated by the current board.

Unfortunately the club will have to endure another relegation first but it will, in the long term, be worth it... Man City were in dire straits only a few years back. Real money and ambition changes everything....

Yep - I have been a fan since the late 70's

In that time we have been relegated once every 8 years on average and spent 25% of that time in the 2nd tier

Good point that fighting relegation is in some ways more interesting than mediocrity. But the idea that the owners would design it as a role for the club to play gives them way too much credit - it is the product of the chaos they've created, not something they control in the slightest.

I used to absolutely love going to Upton park, first match was when Brian Clough's Derby County thrashed us and Bobby Moore was on the bench for going on the piss before a cup game at Blackpool. I had the back end of Moore, Hurst and Peters, then Bonzo, Brooking and Devonshire etc. Now I fucking hate what the Premier league has become and moving to that running track so we can 'move on' to the next level, do me a favour! A midfield of Noble, Obiang and Kayoute, the next level!!

Maybe the board have looked at the numbers and decided that a Top 5 place is far too expensive for them and mid-table meanderings don't generate nearly enough column inches/media minutes.

Flirting with relegation is, therefore, for them, the optimum position in which to place the club.

Or, maybe their product is not West Ham at the London Stadium, but Premier league football at the London Stadium - the two teams playing don't matter so long as the money comes in.

I couldn't disagree more.

I/we cannot trust them to make good judgement calls and it seems from my perspective at least that they're only interested in making a personal profit, not taking the club forward.

The move and the state of the club and the playing squad all indicate that to be true, which means West Ham United will only ever be a means to and end for them, while the supporters pay the price.

That will dramtaically increase with pelayers sold etc

the rent and everything else goes down if we do

We may lose money but it's not going to be that drastic that it negates the few 100 million difference there would be in price

It would depend how much money the club was losing. If we were bleeding money month on month they'd sell cheap. There's probably a situation where they'd walk away for nothing, as has happened with a number of clubs in the past.

We built a Cup-winning side in Division Two, but that was then, and this is now.

When was the last time a promoted club stayed up without spending significantly on new players on promotion?

(Not entirely a rhetorical question, as I don't know for sure that there have been NONE recently, but there won't be many)

Mike Ashley has had an offer of some £300M for Newcastle having paid £130M for it ten years ago. He wants more but the important point is that he needed Newcastle to get promoted and looking safe before an acceptable offer came in.

By the same token our owners are more likely to accept an offer if we are stable in mid PL table than fighting for promotion from the Championship.
